Night Rider

Night Rider is an endless scroller style game following the theme "Night and Day" made for the GDFG monthly game jam.

This also happens to be the first project I've completed, I have started a few projects over the years, but they would always die after a few weeks, and I would stop them for a year or 2, then start another. So I suppose I have a little bit of experience with unity, I still needed to watch tutorials for almost every part of the game though, which really slowed down the process. I feel like I learned a lot from this project and reinforced some things I have learned before. I can't wait for the next game jam so I can continue on this journey.

 There are obviously many things I would have liked to improve and add to the game, but all of these were outside  my current level of experience. Some of which include:

- scrolling background (this is probably the most obvious missing detail).  I tried a few tutorials for this, the first of which had the background as a child of the canvas, this draws it in front of my player and obstacles. Not ideal. The second tutorial worked really well using a "Quad" which seemed to be a 3d element? but it didn't seem to work with my lighting. So I decided to cut this out of Night Rider because I understand I'm learning and my first game won't be perfect. I would love to re visit this on a future Game Jam though.

- variable light intensity and size for the headlights. I pictured collecting powerups that spawn during the day which increased the starting power of the headlights for the next night. The headlights would turn back on at night time with x intensity which diminished over the course of the night. If you collected no powerups there would be a minimum value so you still had an amount of light.

- custom music. I used a free music track off the unity store, but in future games I would like to try make my own basic music.

- more obstacle options (different rocks, trees, etc)
